A home elevator can change your concept of design. With land being the greatest cost in construction, the more square footage you can place between the foundation and the roof, the larger home you can build. An elevator can make even a 5 story home accessible to anyone.
There are many reasons why elevators make sense. Caring for elders, preparing for the future (stairs may be OK when you are young, but who knows when mobility problems may occur), carrying groceries up the stairs, etc.
in 2000 we built a 3 story home and installed an elevator. We provided in home care for our patents for 17 years and, without the elevator, that would not have been possible.
